Recently the State of Illinois made alterations to the newly adopted A17.1.2019 code to include testing of fire alarm initiating devices (FAID) once every 5 years. If the elevator has smoke detectors, flow switches or other devices that send it into Fireman’s Emergency Recall, they will need to be tested by your fire company and witnessed by the elevator inspector. City of Chicago is excluded from this mandate.
The deadline for having documentation of this test is no later than December 31, 2023 for hydraulic elevators. All traction elevators require this documentation be completed at the time of their first Category 5 test after January 1, 2023.
We plan to coordinate scheduling of this test for our maintenance customers as part of their regularly scheduled CAT 1 and CAT 5 testing this year.
